Travel Guides - America
America - home of Mickey Mouse, Route 66 and so much more. Mickey splits his time between Orlando in Florida and Los Angeles in California, the two most popular states for tourists. Route 66 is the legendary road that runs from Chicago across the country, through many of the less visited mid-West states, before finishing in Los Angeles.
As well as these two icons of American culture the country has many stunning features - the Grand Canyon, Lake Mead, the Hoover Dam, Mount Rushmore, Yosemite and Yellowstone National Parks. And thats just for atarters. Florida for holidays. New York for shopping. Boston for history. Los Angeles for movie glamour. Las Vegas for excitement. Golf courses everywhere.
Car - The Best Way to See America
By far the best way to see America is with a hire car. All cars have automatic gearboxes, power steering and air-conditioniing for laid-back, stress-free driving. Car rental in the States, especially in Florida and California, is cheap so longer hires to see more of this vast country are not expensive. Petrol is also very cheap making motoring a very attractive proposition. Add more variety to your travel with a one-way rental.
Collect your car in place and return it in another. One-way rentals within Florida or California are free so why not combine Orlando and Miami for instance? Or Los Angeles and San Francisco, possibly stopping in at Las Vegas on the way? We have arranged many other one-way rentals as well - Chicago to Oklahoma (the first half of Route 66), Memphis to Atlanta, Dallas to Houston, Detroit to Chicago, Chattanooga to Lexington, Orlando to Sarasota to name but a few.
Car Choice in the USA
The American lifestyle is built around the car, making driving a cheap and easy way to get around. Major rental companies offer a great choice of cars at thousands of locations right across the country:
- Economy – equivalent to Corsa/Clio
- Compact – equivalent to Astra/Focus
- Intermediate – equivalent to Vectra/Mondeo
- Full-size – equivalent to Opel Omega
- Premium – top-of-the-range
- Full-size Luxury – Lincoln Town Car, Chrysler LHF or similar - equivalent to Mercedes E-class
- 7-seater minivans – Chrysler Voyager or similar
- 8-seater minvans – generally only available in Florida and California
- SUV/4x4s – Jeep Cherokee or similar
- Convertibles – Chrysler Sebring or similar
Features and Equipment
All have air-conditioning, automatic gearboxes and power steering. Some cars may not be available at all locations. American cars tend to have smaller boots than their European equivalents but up-grading to a bigger car is not expensive. In Florida a 6-seater pick-up truck is available at some locations.
